Fayette Jail Release Paths
Fayette County Jail is the county's only identified full-service jail. It holds people before trial, people serving local terms, and people waiting for another authority. A pretrial detainee may leave after bond, recognizance, dismissal, or another court order. A person serving a local sentence may leave after the term ends, after jail-time credit is applied, or under a later order. Those events can result in a community release.
Other roster removals are transfers. A Common Pleas sentence can send a person to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. A charge described as a hold for another agency or a federal charge can lead to a transfer. The sheriff record should state whether Fayette custody ended by discharge or by delivery to a receiving officer. Ohio's full-service-jail rule requires documentation of the receiving agency, date and time, and authority when custody passes to another agency.

Fayette Jail Roster Limits
The official Fayette current-custody roster calls itself “Persons Currently in Custody.” It searches by first and last name, identifies the jail as FAYE-JAIL, and states a 30-minute update frequency. A matching name supports current listed custody as of the displayed update. It is not a historical released-person list, and the official sources did not promise a release date, release reason, destination, or former-booking archive.
When a name is absent, save the date and time searched and note the roster's own update time. Recheck spelling, aliases, suffixes, and any known booking identifier. A recent operational event may not yet have reached the public feed. More important, an absent name does not distinguish a community discharge from transport to ODRC, federal custody, immigration custody, or another county.

Confirm a Fayette Jail Release
A careful search uses the roster, the right court, and the sheriff's operational record. Washington Court House Municipal Court handles countywide misdemeanor and traffic cases and early felony proceedings. Fayette County Common Pleas Court retains felony cases. A bond, dismissal, time-served sentence, or prison-conveyance entry can explain why jail custody changed, but the court docket does not prove when jail staff completed the physical release.

- Review the newest journalized order, not merely the charge list.

Ohio Revised Code 341.02 gives the most precise request term. It requires the sheriff's jail register to state each prisoner's name, date and cause of commitment, and date and manner of discharge. Fayette Jail Release Records
Ask the Fayette County Sheriff's Office for an existing booking and release record, jail-register entry, and any nonexempt document showing the release date, time, type, authority, or transfer destination. Identify the person and a narrow booking date range. A date of birth, booking number, or court case number can help separate people with similar names when that identifier is already known.

The sheriff says its written form is optional. Under Ohio Revised Code 149.43, a requester generally need not identify themselves, state a purpose, or use a written form, although contact details can help with delivery.

The current form lists ten cents per paper report page, one dollar per printed photo, one dollar per CD, actual flash-drive cost, and mailing expense. Electronic delivery or inspection may avoid some copy costs. The office's three-to-five-day note concerns completion and approval of some reports, not a fixed deadline for every public-record request.
Fayette Jail Transfer Proof
A transfer record is vital when a person was held for ODRC, a federal authority, immigration enforcement, or another agency. Ohio Administrative Code 5120:1-8-01 requires jail staff to verify identity and release documents. For an agency transfer, the rule also requires the receiving officer and agency, the date and time, and the authority for release. Property returned at release or transfer must be receipted.

These required fields let a requester distinguish return of property during a community discharge from documented delivery to another custodian. Ask for the separable, nonexempt portion if part of a record is withheld.
Which Fayette Jail Address?
Older booking, news, and court records may identify the former county jail at 113 East Market Street. That does not by itself point to a second Fayette jail. Local reporting says the old downtown jail served for more than 140 years, was decommissioned, and was demolished in 2021 after the Robinson Road sheriff and jail complex was built.

Current jail and sheriff requests belong at Robinson Road. The old address remains useful as a date clue when matching an older booking or discharge record to the correct county agency.
Fayette Jail Holds and Detainers
A hold or detainer tells the jail that another authority may claim custody. Fayette roster charge descriptions have included “HOLD FOR OTHER AGENCY” and “HOLD FEDERAL CHRG.” Removal of either entry from the county roster can mark pickup or transport, not freedom. Ask the sheriff which receiving agency took custody, then use that agency's locator or records office.
A federally charged person may be held by the U.S. Marshals Service before trial and may never appear in BOP's locator during that stage. An immigration transfer belongs in ICE's separate Online Detainee Locator. ICE's “not in custody” result is not firm proof of community release because it can include removal, voluntary departure, conditional release, or transfer to another custodian. The public locator keeps some booked-out results for about 60 days, after which a no-result may reflect the short display window.
Fayette Jail Facility Facts
The Fayette County Sheriff's Office operates the jail at 1500 Robinson Road SE in Washington Court House. The sheriff describes it as the county's only full-service jail. The live data is hosted through Miami Valley Jails, but that regional web host does not turn Fayette County Jail into a regional detention center. The sheriff remains the directory and record custodian for the county facility.
